- The Council recommends to the Congregation, that we pay interest only mortgage payments for the 2nd half of the year. Normal payments including principal and interest will be resumed in 2010.
o Discussion: The mortgagor for our church property is National Covenant Properties (NCP) which is a financial organization under the Evangelical Covenant Church. When we drafted our 2009 budget, it was obvious that we had a huge challenge ahead of us. So, we approached NCP and asked that they allow us to make interest only mortgage payment for the 1st six months of the year. They agreed and it went before this congregation for approval and passed. Since that time we’ve made significant cuts in our spending along with increases in a number of pledges; however, we still project a shortfall through the end of this year unless we are able to continue with interest only payments. Because this alters the terms of the mortgage (i.e. extends it by 1 year), this must go before the congregation for approval.
